We are currently hiring for a new Field Technician to join our team of exceptional professionals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

As a civil field technologist, you will be responsible for supporting the civil department in designing land development projects of varying size and complexity. Primarily:

  • You will carry out daily site inspection duties including monitoring and documenting contractor progress, workmanship, and conformance with the contract documents.
  • You will be responsible for inspection services on contracts for private and public sector clients under the guidance of a Senior Contract Administrator/Project Manager.

Specific duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Under the direction of the Contract Administrator/Project Manager, observe and document the construction of underground servicing works and roadworks at various project sites;
  • Document daily construction activities through written and photographic records;
  • Maintain accurate and detailed measurements of all work performed by the contractor to assist in the preparation of accurate payments;
  • Surveying in-field construction and recording of as-constructed information for transfer to drawing files;
  • Liaise with Contractors, Municipal Staff and other consultants to ensure construction complies with approved drawings and specifications;
  • Assist in resolving problems and discrepancies;
  • Assist the Contract Administrator in preparing various internal/external reports and other status reports to Client;
  • Assist the Contract Administrator in preparing Contract and Tender Document Packages;
  • Perform field inspections and electrical/utility installation and relocations, attend site meetings and assist in finalizing utility servicing designs;
  • Assist in the preparation/updating of CAD drawings and figures for inclusion in reports, submissions and design briefs; and
  • Other duties, as required.

Qualifications

We are seeking a Technologist graduate with a minimum of two to three years of related field experience.

Candidates must possess a valid ‘G’ driver’s license in good standing and have a reliable vehicle for regular travel to and from construction sites.

Additional skills and experience necessary include:

  • A three year advanced diploma in civil engineering technology, construction engineering technology, construction management, or related field from an accredited post-secondary institution;
  • Experience as an Inspector on heavy construction projects including sewer and watermain, roadworks and stormwater management facilities;
  • Experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D drafting and design;
  • Experience with contract administration and on-site inspection principles, practices, and techniques including:
  • Preparation of various contract administration paperwork including agendas, minutes, daily logs, photographic records, request for information, testing reports, change orders, deficiency lists, and construction certificates,
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Inspection and conformance of construction works with contract documents and approved plans,
  • Experience with interpretation of specifications and plans;
  • Familiarity with Municipal and Provincial Standards and requirements within the province of Ontario;
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook;
  • Familiarity with basic survey methods/techniques;
  • Excellent attention to detail; and
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Employment Terms

This is a full-time permanent position located in Barrie, ON, which requires a 37.5h workweek.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
