Based in beautiful Barrie, Ontario, Gerrits Engineering is a full-service Consulting Engineering firm that specializes in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering. Since 2006, Gerrits has been delivering outstanding designs and topnotch service which has resulted consistent in growth. At present, we have delivered projects to nearly 2000 unique clients.

We are currently hiring for a new Intermediate Residential Designer to join our team of exceptional professionals.

As an Intermediate Residential Designer, you will be part of the backbone of our Residential/Structural Engineering and Design Department. You will be assisting senior designers prepare residential design drawings and develop detailed structural drawings for residential building projects in Autodesk Revit all while working with an experienced team of designers, engineers, and project managers. Our clients bring us a wide array of fun and challenging projects ranging from single family residences, subdivisions, multi-unit and multi-story condominiums/apartments. We design new construction projects, tenant fit ups, and small to complex renovations. Your contributions will ensure that we meet project design objectives, client requirements, and maintain the high level of client satisfaction that we’re known for.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop preliminary residential designs and plans in accordance with project requirements and specifications;
  • Ensure that residential designs meet compliance with relevant codes and standards while staying within allocated budgets and timelines;
  • Design residential plans to align with the Gerrits Standard and conduct thorough reviews to ensure compliance before submission;
  • Maintain an appropriate level of detail within residential designs to meet project needs and requirements;
  • Collaborate with other departments and engineers to coordinate drawings and ensure accuracy and alignment across various aspects of the project;
  • Attend occasional site meetings to document compliance and identify deficiencies in comparison to the drawings.
  • Perform various engineering calculations using applicable software and engineering design standards to ensure accuracy and efficiency in designs;
  • Actively participate in internal initiatives aimed at improving processes, design standards, and overall efficiency;
  • Continuously review current development guidelines for the related township, city, or municipality to ensure designs align with the latest regulations;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Architectural and/or Structural design or drafting technology
  • 1-3 years of experience in residential design (including co-op placements)

Employment Terms

This is a full-time permanent position located in Barrie, ON, which requires a 37.5h workweek. Salary is commensurate with experience.
